There are a number of fantastic vineyards and wineries in the area that offer wine tastings and tours, which we've listed some of our picks below. Cartecay Vineyards

Cartecay Vineyards is located in Ellijay, GA, situated in the Eastern part of Gilmer County, in the Cartecay region. The Southern Appalachians in North Georgia are ideal for growing wine grapes. The elevation, the soil and the climate combine to produce wine grapes of the highest quality and subsequently, fine wines. Cartecay Vineyards has Western facing slopes, which allow for the vines to receive maximum sun exposure, elevations ranging from 1650 ft. to 1750 ft., sloping landscapes to help keep the vines` "feet" dry and clay loam soils, which are conductive to growing grapes. Cartecay Vineyards was planted in the Spring of 2008 with two varieties, Vidal Blanc and Merlot. Since 2008 four more varieties have been planted; Traminette, Norton (Cynthiana), Catawba and Cabernet Sauvignon, with more planned.

People always ask us how we came up with the name. Like goats, we happily tend to a mountainous land. In fact, it has been a nickname that we have given each other throughout the years. Three Sisters Vineyard

Three Sisters Vineyards & Winery is a small family farm situated on a hundred and eighty acres in the heart of the Frogtown District in historic Lumpkin County, Georgia. Located eight miles northeast of the site of the first major US gold rush, Dahlonega, the farm`s name was inspired by the property`s spectacular view of Lumpkin County`s Three Sisters Mountain. While no one knows the origin of the name of Three Sisters Mountain, local residents refer to its three distinctive peaks as Wild Cat, McBrayer, and Rattlesnake. Established in 1996 and bonded in 2000, Three Sisters Vineyards is Lumpkin County`s first vineyard since prohibition and holds the distinction of being "Dahlonega`s First Family Farm Winery."

Ellijay River Vineyards

The Ellijay River Vineyards were established in 2010 on almost twenty acres of former crop land, bordering the Ellijay River in the North Georgia mountains. The property is located in the Whitepath area of Gilmer County between the towns of Ellijay and Cherry Log, at an elevation of 1400 feet above sea level. The vineyard is sited on a gently sloping hill facing South, on mostly sandy soils on the inside of a bend in the Ellijay River. Small but quite vineyard. Open by appointment only.
